Owner of SleepIn Hotel, 50-y-o Clifton Bacchus of 288-289 Church Street, was on Monday arraigned before Principal Magistrate, Sherdell Isaac-Marcus charged with breach of curfew. He pleaded not guilty.
It is alleged that on March 12, at SleepIn, Bacchus breached the curfew imposed between the hours of 10:30 pm and 04:00am.
Bacchus was represented by Attorney Latchmie Rahamat. She argued that the said law, under which Bacchus is being charged, lists his business as an essential service, thus making the charge unlawful.
According to protocols, hotels, interior lodges and guest houses can operate on a 24 hour basis.
The Prosecutor in the matter added that a file, with all the charges pertaining to breach of curfew, have been sent to the office of the DPP and is awaiting advice on the way forward.
He was granted $10,000 bail and is expected to appear on May, 17th, 2021.
