ORPHEUS Johnson, a pork-knocker of Second Street, Craig, East Bank Demerara, who confessed to counts of attempted murder and another two counts of manslaughter, was yesterday sentenced to two life sentences for manslaughter and 20-yrs on each count of attempted murder. The sentence was handed down by Justice Sandil Kissoon. Johnson was represented by attorney-at-law, Rachael Bakker
The charge against him stated that on June 21, 2015, he unlawfully killed Travis Rudder and on April 22, 2015, he unlawfully killed a man unknown to him, and on June 21, 2015 he discharged a loaded firearm at Mowanza Gill and Jaheal Rudder with the intent to commit murder.
On June 21, 2015, while a family was sleeping, Johnson killed Travis Rudder Sr, and wounded his reputed wife and 18-month-year-old son at their Lot 130 Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara home.
On the day in question Rudder Snr, his wife and baby were sleeping when gunmen opened fire through their bedroom window with a semi automatic pistol. 12 bullets were directed to Rudder Snr. while his reputed wife, Mawanza Gill, bore gunshot wounds to both her legs and six shots to Jaheal Rudder back and stomach.
Johnson has also admitted killing Gladstone George, called “Brother”, of Brutus Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara, back in April 22, 2015.
