As mass vaccination continues across the country for the COVID-19 virus, persons are still with the option of taking or not taking the vaccine.
Some persons may have concerns about the reation of the vaccine with other preexisting medical conditions.
Dr. Frank Anthony had stated that the vaccine is not mandatory, “health workers have an option, they can either take the vaccine or if they don’t want to take it, that’s okay. But our job as a Ministry, and as a Government, is to be able to offer them the vaccine, and it’s their choice, whether they’d like to have the vaccine or not. You will recall that the President has said that we are not making this mandatory,” he stated in DPI report.
However, the Guyana Power and Light, GPL is forcing staff to take the jab and if they refuse, consequences may follow.
According to a letter seen by Daily News from Divisional Director- Human Resources, Bal Persaud addressed to all staff, each department is to compile a list of employees who have not taken the vaccine. He further noted that the COVID-19 Task Force will be contacted and arrangements will be put in place to have them receive the vaccine.
He noted that if staff are reluctant, then they may be referred to the Industrial nurse.
President Irfaan Ali recently said that Guyana is looking at the possibility of having a vaccine passport here in Guyana.
