APNU supporters are calling for Party Leader David Granger to step down.
“It is time for you to go! There is no role for you in the shaping of the future of the People’s National Congress. You lack the political imagination, the strategic thinking and more importantly, you are incapable of considering any ideas other than your own.
It is clear that the litany of failures you produced as leader of the People’s National Congress and as President of the Cooperative Republic and your craven, conceited effort to continue to squat on the leadership of the party are a clear and present danger to the continued existence of the party as a viable, respected political organization.
Given the ongoing assault in the form of trumped up legal charges and unjustified terminations of Africans who dutifully served your administration, you have been characteristically silent, displaying the predictable cowardice and lack of resolve. Are you silent because of unconcern or is this what you planned to happen? Whose side are you on Mr. Granger?
The party is currently experiencing a leadership crisis. The party cannot be a factor in Guyana’s future guided by your cowardice, hubris and lack of resolve. Further, your inability to consider any ideas emanating from anywhere but your numerous unread pamphlets, is a clear indication that your autocratic tendencies are a threat to democracy in the party. You should be aware that the party was the most democratic of the political parties before your arrival!
Party members and supporters both local and in the diaspora are fed up with your lackluster and uncaring style. We will not continue to sit idly by and watch you occupy the office of party leader while your supporters are being unjustly attacked and put on the breadlines by a brutal and tyrannical regime.
By your cowardice and disengagement you have caused the PPP to unleash a most brutal and sustained attack on African Guyanese. You alone by your own selfish focus are responsible for the plight of your supporters and members.
The PNC has an impressive array of leaders who are capable of taking the party in a progressive direction. This team of leaders , including the emerging young leaders are prepared for the task of taking the party into the future. You must do the responsible thing and step aside so that the party and its leadership can embrace a modern paradigm of efficiency, strategic planning and broad consultation.
After the elections and recount in 2020, your self-interest, and conceit led to your isolation while forbidding prominent allies from responding to the ongoing onslaught. This pathetic leadership has set the party back by a generation while demoralizing supporters. Your dictatorial approach continues to damage the party and by extension the psyche of tens of thousands of supporters who you apparently care very little about.
It is clear that as far as the party is concerned, you have outlived your relevance. You should do the right thing and march on to your permanent retirement! The PNC needs a breath of fresh air and Guyana needs an effective opposition. A truncated political imagination yields limited political options! It is time — for you to, for once, put the party first, stop the purposeful self-aggrandizement and go!!!”
