The Guyana National Bureau of Standards has not approved the used of the “clock” scale for use by businesses. Vendors and retailers are therefore not allow to use them when buying or selling.
The GNBS does not verify (stamp) such scales because:
1. They were designed for domestic/ household use only
2. They do not measure solely using the metric system
3. Their weighing mechanism was not designed for continuous use and can be damaged easily.
Vendors, shopkeepers and store owners are urged to desist from using these and switch to one of the devices approved by the GNBS.
Consumers have the right to demand that items being purchased are sold using an approved weighing device. If you have any complaints with regards to the below scales being used at shops, stores or markets, you are urged to have this reported by messaging us on WhatsApp: 692-GNBS (4627).
