Nineteen-year-old Daniel McArthur, of Lot 27 Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara was yesterday placed on $150,000 bail for allegedly snatching two gold chains.
McArthur appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus where the charge was read to him. He was not required to plead.
Attorney Dexter Todd, who represented Mc Arthur, argued that his client has no previous convictions and is currently learning a Trade. He further stated that his client did not admit to the offense and non of the articles were found in his possession when he was arrested shortly after the robbery.
The Prosecutor then objected to bail saying the accused admitted to the police “Yes I did grabble the lady chain but I ain’t got it here”. He said the accused was identified by persons who witnessed the robbery.
It is alleged that on 29th April, 2021, at North Road, McArthur stole from Janetta Morris, two gold chains valued at $224,000.
He was ordered by the Magistrate to stay 100 feet from Morris’ home and place of work.
The matter was adjourned until 17th May, 2021.
