The police are investigating the accidental discharge of a 12 guage shotgun by a security guard attached to North West Security Service on Wednesday at around 09:00hrs at a Chinese Supermarket located at LBI, East Coast Demerara.
According to reports, police acting on information received went to the Moon Supermarket which is located at La Bonne Intention, East Coast Demerara, where contact was made with Dequan James a security officer attached to North West Security Service.
When questioned, he told the police that he accidentally discharged a round from his 12-gauge shotgun with serial number R276914 with five cartridges about 09:00 hours on 2021/04/07.
He then contacted the Chief Security Officer Kendall and informed him what occurred, who came and collected the cartridge casing and left.
Dequan James was arrested and escorted to the Beterverwagting Police Station along with the firearm and cartridges where the firearm and cartridges were lodged.
About 16:00 hours on the said date Chief Security Officer Kendall came to the said station where he handed over one cartridge casing. He was warned to provide all relevant documents pertaining to the said firearm.
No one was injured. Investigation in progress.
