Leader of the Opposition Joseph Harmon is welcoming the One Guyana Commission, that President Dr. Irfaan Ali but blasted his administration for trying to hoodwink Guyanese.
He noted the concept is good but said the fact that there is no budgetary allocation for the commission, this plan of government cannot be taken seriously. He noted that race is a dire issue in Guyana and should be addressed immediately.
He called for a national debate and national understanding and for there to be the political will to dissolve the problem now. He said, “the APNU/AFC is willing to act.”
He reminded that when the PPP/C took office in August 2020, they dismantled the Department of Social Cohesion. Harmon further highlighted that in 2017 an allocation of $111M was given to the department; in 2018 $395M and in 2019 $836 was allocated to the Department of Social Cohesion.
He juxtaposed those figures to the Budget that makes no monetary provision for such a commission. Harmon said President Ali don’t just talk the talk, walk the walk.”
