A Sergeant of Police, Colin Whyte has been remanded to jail for attempting to murder a woman with whom he shared a four years relationship.
Whyte appeared at the Blairmont Magistrate Court on Monday and was not required to plead to the charge when it was read to him. He was then remanded to jail until March 2, 2021.
Whyte of 63 Auchlyne Estate Corentyne, Berbice, who was the Subordinate Officer in charge of the Balirmont Police Station, was under close arrest for attempting to murder his partner of four years 32-y-o Shonnetta James a Special Constable attached to GPL Onverwagth and lives at Onderneeming, West Coast Berbice, on Thursday at around 20:30hrs.
James claimed that Whyte moved out of the house because she told him that she doesn’t want him anymore, since they are having several misunderstandings.
James further noted that on the night in question, she was at home when Whyte suddenly appeared at the northern door armed with a handgun and discharged a round in her direction. She said she felt pain in the right side of her neck and she fell to the ground.
Whyte then pick her up and took her to Fort Wellington Public Hospital in his motor car and drop her off at the gate and drove away.
James was taken into the said hospital by a porter where she was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and transferred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital where she underwent surgery and was admitted a patient. Her condition is regarded as stable.
A brown shirt was found in the hallway of the house with bloodstain and a suspected gun bullet hole on the collar. No Firearm or warhead was found. Whyte was contacted and told of the allegations arrested and cautioned. He denied the allegation and was placed under close arrest.
