Opposition Member of Parliament, MP, Devin Sears today requested a completed bailout of the town of Linden.
He was at the time speaking during the 2021 budget debates.
Sears, directing his request to the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall, said the $18M bailout for the town is wholly inadequate.
He asked for the toll booth to be returned for the municipality to earn more.
Sears, who represents the Upper Demerara Upper Berbice Region (Region 10), also pleaded for the town’s boundaries to be extended and also called for a revaluation of properties.
While Sears made the requests claiming it is necessary for the people of the region, many see this as hypocritical as the party he represents was only booted from office a mere six months ago.
Sears is an MP representing the A Partnership for National Unity/Alliance for Change party, who governed the country from May 2015 up until August 2020, when Dr Irfaan Ali was sworn in as president.
The passion expelled by Sears was not there when his party was in government.
