Opposition Leader, Joseph Harmon and a group of party supporters gathered in front of the Magistrate’s Court on Monday in solidarity with charged Alliance for Change (AFC) General Secretary, David Patterson.
Patterson has been charged by the Special Organised Crime Unit in connection with attempting to defraud the Demerara Harbor Bridge.
Opposition Leader, Joseph Harmon told the media that the charges are vindictive in nature because the matter was dealt with by former Police Legal Advisor, Justice Claudette Singh.
Harmon further noted that the charges are meant to create problems with the leadership of the APNU+AFC.
“They have dealt with Volda Lawrence of the PNC, now they have gone with David Patterson here and we don’t know who will be next,” Harmon noted.
Further, the picketing exercise is to register the way in which the government is using the Guyana Police Force to take action against citizens when there is no real cause for action.
Patterson has been granted $200,000 bail and is expected to return to court on February 15.
