Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony is coming in for high praise due to his efforts in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic spread in Guyana.
On Sunday, Dr. Anthony commissioned a $5.4M boat and a $12 million COVID-19 isolation facility at the Suddie Hospital.
The Minister, since taking office, implemented a series of measures to help stop the spread of the virus. Several Orders were issued to places of gathering. The COVID-19 Task Force has been actively engaging restaurants and bars to minimize the number of persons gathering at the locations. The Task Force issues several orders to close doors as a result of breaching the COVID-19 Orders.
The Minister has been very active in arranging for Guyana to receive the COVID-19 vaccines. On Friday, the Ministry of Health received vaccine carriers and solar fridges from UNICEF. “The vaccine carriers and two solar fridges would complement what we already have and we look forward to working along with you,” the Minister said.
The solar refrigerators will be distributed to Regions Seven and Eight while each administrative region will receive vaccine carriers.
Great progress has been made in preparing Guyana to receive and roll out the COVID-19 vaccines. The Ministry purchased cold chain storage facilities and rehabilitate and expand vaccination centers all over Guyana.
The Ministry is also conducting training for medical staff who will administer the vaccines.
Guyana is expected to receive 20 percent of the total vaccines required from COVAX and is working to secure the rest from other sources.
