25-y-o Drupattie Balkarran of Goed Bananen Land, East Canjie Berbice appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on Friday charged with attempted murder. She was released on $300,000 bail.
Back in December, Balkarran allegedly brutalised her six year old daughter to the point of her becoming unconscious. The child was dumped in a swamp at the back of her house. Balkarran confessed to the crime.
The court ordered the woman to stay 100 feet away from the child. She will return to court on January 27. The father who was also present in court, related to the media that a second CT scan was done on the child and she still has a fractured skull.
New evidence also emerged in the assault of the six-year-old Janita Ramsarram. According to information reaching Daily News, the child confided in her favorite uncle (father’s brother) known as “Coco” about what happened. The uncle has since recorded that conversation.
The child said that her mother beat her with a piece of wood and her grandfather dumped her in a swamp behind their home. Reports were that it was the Child’s grandfather who found her in the swamp upon checking. The uncle has since turned over the new piece of evidence to law enforcement officers.
The mother of Ramsarran recently spoke to Daily News some time back, stated that she was forced to confess to the crime. Balkarran, disclosed that following the discovery of her unconscious daughter, she along with her parents were arrested and taken to the reliance police station where she was being questioned in connection with the discovery. She said that she was placed in a separate cell where she was told that the child informed detectives that she (Balkarran) had beaten her.
