Commissioners from the Coalition walked out of the statutory meeting on Tuesday after a request to meet with Chair of the Commission, Justice Claudette Singh was denied. The PNCR through its General Secretary, Amna Ally wrote the Chair requesting a meeting with her, alone. The Chair called the request by the PNCR, ‘unprecedented”. The Commission is about to make a decision on House to House Registration.
In response to the Chair’s decision, the PNCR said “The APNU+AFC is a major stakeholder and as such, we consider it discourteous, at least, for her not to have entertained their presence”.
The Chair prefers meeting with the entire Commission, which includes Government Commissioners,
According to reports, “The Chairman communicated to the Commission that she communicated to them the representative, Amna Ally, that she was not prepared to meet alone, [but] that she was prepared to meet, with the Commission. She is part of a collective, and as a consequence, she requested that the meeting be with the entire commission. They have obviously refused that and the PNC Commissioners have walked out,” according to Commissioner, Sase Gunraj in another section of the media.
