The main Opposition APNU+AFC says it is aware of plans by the Governing PPP to “raid” the treasury of billions of dollars just three days before the end of the year.
“The APNU+AFC Coalition is extremely concerned by several items on the agenda for tomorrow’s sitting of the National Assembly.”
Further, the party noted that “there is a Financial Paper No. 2 of 2020 which seeks supplementary budgetary allocation of some $17.4BILLION.” The party calls the move “ludicrous and outrageous”
The Opposition is contending that there is no need for the large sum of money because it cannot be legitimately spent. “Why the rush when it is public knowledge that the 2021 budget is due in February?” The party questions.
“Secondly, there is a request for an approval of some $792MILLION from the contingency fund which sum has already been spent by the PPP regime from October to December of 2020. How could it be that less than a month after the budget was approved the PPP ran out of money and had to spend an additional $800MILLION?” the party contends.
The party noted that if there was need for additional monies, then it should have been for bonuses for Public Servants.
“Tomorrow, on behalf of the Guyanese people, we shall thoroughly interrogate the PPP in the National Assembly on this blatant attempt at squandermania,” APNU+AFC noted.
