As the number of COVID-19 cases on the rise everyday, with the total confirmed cases now stands at 4530 as of yesterday, the Government and the main political Opposition are calling for persons to be remain at home, do not congregate in large crowds and maintain social distance However, both agencies have been doing the opposite to this message.

While many airports, restaurant bar, shopping mall etc, remain closed in countries around the world with high COVID-19 cases, the Government could be seen as taking a lax approach to this issue. On Monday last, Schools for the 4,5 and 6th forms were reopened. Several students were tested positive for the virus at the President’s College on Sunday. They came from different parts of the country to start the new school term. The Government also recently opened up the airports, allowing free travel to and fro.

Recently, two persons at the GPHC fell and died from COVID-19 as was reported by someone who wittiness the incident and reported by doctors on site. That issue was posted on Social Media, but a Senior Gov. Official ask the individual to remove the post. The matter was never reported.

Under the Previous administration, a curfew was implemented from 6pm to 6am. This came with its own set of challenges. Workers were left stranded on bus parks, gas stations were closed by 5pm among other things. The curfew is currently 10:300pm to 4:00am, which gives people more time to be on the road.

The Main Opposition APNU+AFC has been lambasting the Ali’s administration over the way it is handling the pandemic. However, the Opposition APNU+AFC continue to have their supporters gather in large crowds at various places. They held several protest actions outside the Magistrate Courts, CID Head Quarters, Evelary and yesterday at the Square of the Revolution. Many person were without masks, social distancing rule was not observed, as gathering is what a protest is all about. Very little testing was also done under the previous administration.
